Description: Henry nicholas iii and business partner henry samueli cofounded fabless semiconductor firm broadcom in 1991 in a redondo beach, calif. condominium. in february 2016 broadcom was acquired by singapore-based chip firm avago for $37 billion in cash and stock and renamed broadcom ltd. nicholas retired from broadcom in 2003 but has held onto a nearly 3% stake in the company. he's now focused on philanthropy and passing a crime victims' rights bill known as marsy's law, which is now law in 12 states. in february 2019, nicholas was charged with 5 counts of drug trafficking after police found heroin and methamphetamine in his las vegas hotel room in august. in september 2019, he took a plea deal in his drug trafficking case. he'll attend drug counseling and donate $500,000 to area treatment centers.
